Welcome to the Kampuchea Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Auditors (KICPAA), which was founded in 2003 by the Sub-Decree of the Kingdom of Cambodia on 19th March 2003. It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the President of KICPAA for the next four years. Over the past few years I have seen KICPAA grow from a fledging professional body with very few staff, struggling to provide services to its members, to the situation today, with KICPAA now having established it Secretariat, which is crucial to ensuring proper day-today operations. In addition, KICPAA is now a primary member of ASEAN Federation of Accountants (AFA) and an Associate member of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). | KICPAA has also signed memorandums of understanding and cooperation with other well-known professional bodies. This growth has been overseen by our hardworking immediate ex-president Mr. KAK KEY, to whom I wish to pay special tribute. There are many challenges ahead and I look forward to working with officers, the Governing Council members, committees and other stakeholders on the formidable task of building on the achievements of my predecessor. Among the tasks that face use are: establishing a National CPA programme for Khmer citizens; assisting member firms to establish a system of quality control; working closely with the National Accounting Council for the adoption of international standards on Auditing, International Standards on Quality Control; developing accounting frameworks; and promoting and enhancing awareness and understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). I strongly believe that overcoming these challenges will help promote public trust in the transparency, accountability and reliability of financial information, and good governance, leading to the successful operation of a Cambodian Stock Exchange. I reiterate KICPAA's commitment is to protect the public interest. This is a fundamental element in our efforts to enhance the public's confidence in the accounting professional and financial reporting and auditing functions. As KICPAA President, and on behalf of all Governing Council members and the management, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude and thanks to all members and the public for your support and dedication to KICPAA in developing the accounting profession and its vibrant future in Cambodia Kuy Lim, FCCA KICPAA President |
